Covina Valley School District Superintendent News
Elizabeth Eminhizer, who is the Superintendent of Covina Valley School District is excited to share that Covina-Valley Unified’s Northview High School Wrestling Program continues to strengthen its status as one of the best high school wrestling teams in the state, following yet another historic season at the CIF State Wrestling Championships.
Under the leadership of National High School Wrestling Hall of Fame coach David Ochoa and Bobby Bellamy, Northview’s boys team won its 25th consecutive Valle Vista League championship, 12th CIF-SS dual championship, 15th CIF-SS Central Division team title, 11 Valle Vista League individual titles, and had a top-20 team finish in the state championships with two individual state placers—senior Adrian Limon, placing fifth in the 120-pound weight class and senior Julian Leon, placing eighth in the 132-pound weight class.
Winning Teams
The girls team delivered an equally dominant season with an eighth-place team finish and two individual placers at the state championships—senior Savannah Lewis, who placed second in the 150-pound weight class, and junior Leilani Lazaro, who placed fifth in the 116-pound weight class. They also captured their first-ever CIF-SS dual championship win, sixth Valle Vista League championship in seven years, the CIF-SS Central Division team title and seven individual Valle Vista League titles this season.
“At Northview, we constantly try to elevate our athletes,”
Bellamy said.
“It’s important for us to establish trust with our athletes so we can help them accomplish their goals and teach them skills that will translate over to college, careers, marriage and beyond.”
These lessons have pushed Northview’s athletes to set high standards for themselves; many go on to compete for top collegiate wrestling programs and have their names printed on the black and gold banners decorating Northview’s wrestling space.
“Northview’s wrestling program continues to impress, year after year,”
Northview High School Principal Dr. Ryan Parry said.
“As seen throughout our coaches and athletes, anything is possible.”
For their outstanding season, Northview’s wrestlers were recognized alongside the District’s winter athletes by the Board of Education during their March 7 meeting. Following the season’s conclusion, Northview’s athletes hope to continue pushing themselves to achieve the utmost excellence on and off the mat.
“Congratulations to Northview High School’s wrestling team for their amazing season,”
said Elizabeth Eminhizer, who is the Superintendent of Covina Valley School District.
“We are so proud of our Vikings for continuing to achieve record-setting success and look forward to seeing what they accomplish in the future.”
